Christmas Pie

I remember when I was a little girl I would sit and watch Nana making pies just like the little girl in this picture. Nana would make all kinds of pies, meat, apple, apricot, even at Christmas Nana would bake her special Christmas Pies, I always wondered how she got those edges so neat but it was a secret that she took with her to her grave, and I've never been able to make perfect edges on pies like Nana used to. But then I came across this little story and her secret was revealed..To read how Nana did this click on the book to enlarge it.

Santa's photo

Well, here is the proof.
Santa must have been reading my blog as he just sent me a email along with his photo to prove that santa is truely a Male. Now do you believe me?

Santa is a MAN

For those of you that have been to Jackie's blog would have read 'SANTA HAS TO BE A WOMAN' then this is why I think Santa must be a man:
Santa Claus could never have been a woman!
Who else but a man would:
Be really generous once a year,
Be totally uninvolved the other 11 months,
(And 29 days, we’ll give him Christmas Eve & Day),
And yet think he was a saint?

One more reason Santa has to be a man:

No woman is going to wear the same outfit, year after year.

The talented One

In one of my previous posts I mentioned Janita, for this posting I will call her the "TALENTED ONE".
The Talented One has made this cake for her Local Scout group to have has a Christmas Raffle, the picture does not do it justice, all the decorations were made by the Talented One as was the cake which I assume is a fruit Cake.
Is it any wonder I call her the "Talented one".

Bitch n Stitch Night

Tonight was our usual friday night Bitch N Stitch, but I decided that I wouldn't do any stitching, it's not as if I didn't have anything to do but I decided I would make these little boots which will adorn the Christmas Lunch Table, these will hold the cutlery along with a serviette and a candy cane and will be put on each plate. I have held Christmas at my house for the last ummmm errrrr 20 years, it was always at My mum and Dad's house but many years ago mum had a stroke and wasn't well enough to do it, so I took it on, and it's stayed with me all these years, It's a lot of work but I enjoy having it. We have the traditional hot lunch and for dinner cold meat and salads followed by deserts. Lunch this year won't be big, my mother, brother Paul, sister inlaw Glenys and the three of us. During the afternoon my nieces and nephews and their spouses and children all call come to visit us and hand out the gifts that Santa has left for the little ones. After tea when all the dishes are done and the dining room and kitchen have been cleaned up is when I can sit and relax, I like to make sure the day goes well for my Mum, she's 81 so my time with her is precious and I like to make Christmas a special time for her, it's not easy for her as my dad is no longer with us and neither is my eldest brother, so christmas day for her is quiet emotional as it was the day when she would have her entire family around her, she has her little cry but then she picks herself up and enjoys the day. So anyone that has elderly parents make this day a special day for them.

Hot Today

It's been a hot day here in Melbourne, not sure of what temperature it got to but I would say low 30's, for some that isn't hot but it hasn't warmed up to those temperatures, just whamo it hits. But we are rather lucky here as we may get a couple of day's in a row of high temperatures but then we get a cool change. Tomorrow I heard was 30's again then a chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon, lets hope that we get some well needed rain with that.
I was talking with a lady from the water company today and she was saying that at the end of November our water restriction rating will be adjusted at the moment we are on 3a but more than likely we will go to 4, which means no watering of gardens what so ever, unless it's with recycled water from the house. I told her that my garden is so lush as I have drought tolerant plants weeds , it's amazing those drought tolerant plants weeds remain nice and green without any water at all and continue to grow with no love at all given to them.

UPDATE ; Weather forecast for tonight - DARK !
Goodnight xx

JANITA

JACKIE

3 weeks out of every month myself and my friends get together on a friday night to stitch, takeing it in turns of going to each other's house's, we call it our "stitch N Bitch" night. Sometimes there is more bitchin than stitchin, but we can combine the both as well. It can end up a late night or a early night just depends on what we're doing or how we are feeling. Janita is the "talented" one, she makes and decorates cakes, sews, quilts, cooks, makes jewellery, makes amazing things out of polymer clay. She made and decorated my mother's 80th birthday cake....such a talented young lady

THANKS FOR BEING FRIENDS BITCHES

Merry Christmas

Tribute to my Brother.

April 2004 My eldest Brother Donald suddenly passed away at the young age of 54, he was just 7 months of retiring and had planned a cruise that he and his wife and friends were going on, sadly he never got to go nor did he live to see the births of his 3 beautiful grand daughters. Donald worked for Connex since he was 14 years of age, he was based at Epping in the maintenance workshop in a managerial position looking after over 300 men/woman, as a tribute to him they named a train in his honor.

My nephew Greg had been wanting to do a tribute to his dad and 2 weeks ago this is what he got, it was taken from the above photo which was published in the Dandenong Journal

I just couldn't believe how lifelike his tattoo is, I am so proud of you Greg and think it's a fantastic way of paying a tribute to your Dad, he not only lives on in your heart but is with you constantly.
I miss Donald very much and think of him every day, he was a wonderful son, brother, husband and father and was well respected by those that knew him. I could talk with him about anything knowing he would never judge but listen but if advise was required he would give it.
RIP my dear Brother xxxx

Out and About in Melbourne and Ballarat

Last Month I had 3 days off work to spend time with friends who came over From Adelaide

Day 1, 16th Oct - Plane arriving at 8.45am, left home at 7.30am drove to MelbourneAirport, from there we drove to Parkville where we were staying, caught a tram into Melbourne city and then another one to St.Kilda where we sat in the beautiful sunshine having lunch.

Day 2, 17th Oct - Drove to Ballarat which takes approx 1hour from Melbourne, we stayed the night at Doherty's Ballarat Lodge, we were completely in awe when we got into our room, you walk into a small entrance foyer, to the left was this magnificient room which had a king size bed, 2 king single beds, 2 large leather chairs, desk, coffee table, TV in an enclosed unit, the room was beautiful, to the right of the foyer was the bathroom, large double shower with seperate shower heads, a corner spa, heated towel rails, and off course the toilet. The hotel is set on 7 acres of land, below is a photo of the "secret Garden" which is part of the grounds.

Day 3 - 18th Oct - We got up, dressed and walked down to the hotel resturant for buffet breakfast, the food was amazing, fresh fruit platter, all different types of bread you could imagine which had just arrived from the bakery, eggs, bacon, sausages, muffins, pancakes...you name it , it was there...came back to our room organised our bags and left around 10.30am, we toured around Ballarat, went to the Botanical gardens, Lake Wendouree which sadly is dry due to the drought, I was stunned at the lack of water as it's a beautiful lake which had paddle steamers, rowing boats and families that would gather on the grass for picnics. Unfortunately non of these things happen these days which has taken a lot of people away from such a beautiful little city.

Day 4 - 19th Oct - We went to Melbourne Zoo, I cannot remember the last time I was there, there is so much to see and do and a lot of free activities for children. We spent quiet a few hours walking around looking at all the animals.

Day 4 - 20th Oct - After breakfast we got ourselves organised and caught a tram into the city, wandered around Myers, then caught a tram to Melbourne Museum, which is next to the Old Exhibition building in Carlton. For a small entrance fee you can spend all day wandering around the different exhibits and interactive areas.

After the museum it was time to take the tram back, collect our bags then on the freeway to Melbourne Airport, flight wasn't departing until 9pm so we had dinner, walked around the airport then sat for awhile until it was time to for Hugs and kisses and see you soon.

Back to work the next day, we had a great time as we always do when we are together, next it's my turn to visit in Adelaide.
